Travel Tip – I am preparing for a trip to the Philippines, Singapore, and Vietnam. This week I plan to get my visas. Countries have different visa rules, requirements, and ways to apply. The place I go to see what I need to do before I travel is the website travel.state.gov
. This site is hosted by the U.S. Department of State – Bureau of Consular Affairs. There is information on every country in the world, including visa requirements. This info is for U.S. citizens. If you travel on a different passport, check the rules for travelers from that country.
A quick search shows, that for the Philippines, American tourists do not need a visa for stays under 30 days. For Singapore, American tourists do not need a visa for says under 90 days. However, for Vietnam Americans do need a visa. I check this every time I travel as rules and regulations change. Last time I went to Vietnam I also needed a visa – but then I had to apply at a consulate. Now, U.S. citizens can apply online for a single entry E-visa valid a maximum of 30 days for the purpose of tourism.
Do you need a visa for an upcoming trip you are taking? If yes, what rules are there?
You will find more information on this and related topics in the Before You Go Abroad Handbook.
